Robots & Design

Design plays a fundamental role in engineering and how well its solutions can be implemented in the real world. Pablo Valdivia y Alvarado Ph.D.

Research cruises

I have participated as a shipboard scientist on six research cruises leading experiments to investigate anthropogenic effects in coastal zones using unmanned surface, air, and underwater vehicles. During the experiments our team deployed instruments using combinations of unmanned vehicle missions to measure water quality and other environmental factors. Our team also tested new bio-inpired sensors and control techniques to improve maneuverability and energy consumption during operations in marine environments.

I design simple and elegant mechanisms that exploit natural phenomena to achieve their function by drawing inspiration from nature and a deep understanding of the physics of a problem.
